What to Pack for a Dog-Friendly Café Visit
A few simple things in your bag can make all the difference between a stressful outing and a great one.

Before You Head Out
A dog-friendly café is one of life's simple pleasures — good coffee, fresh air, and your best mate by your side. But a little prep goes a long way in making sure it's enjoyable for everyone (including the café staff and other patrons!).
Here's what we always recommend packing:
🦮 A leash or tether Even the most well-behaved dog should be secured at a café. A short tether that clips to your chair leg keeps your pup close without them wandering into other tables or the café entrance.
💧 A collapsible water bowl Many dog-friendly cafés will happily refill a water bowl if you ask, but having your own means you're never caught short — especially on a warm SEQ morning. Collapsible silicone bowls pack flat and weigh almost nothing.
🦴 A few treats Sitting calmly at a café takes focus, especially with all those interesting smells! A handful of treats in your pocket rewards good manners and keeps your dog settled while you enjoy your coffee in peace.
🛏️ A travel mat or blanket This is the underrated hero of café outings. A familiar mat gives your dog their own defined space to settle on, which helps them relax and signals "this is your spot". It also keeps them off the bare ground (or hot pavement in summer). Bonus: it protects café furniture from muddy paws!
A Quick Note on Café Etiquette
The best way to keep cafés dog-friendly for everyone is to be a considerate guest:
- Always ask before entering with your dog — even at known dog-friendly spots
- Keep your dog close and under control
- Clean up immediately if there's an accident
- A calm, well-settled dog is a welcome dog 🐾
